January was an intense month for all of us here at New Legacy New York. First the holidays, then Paul’s visit and training sessions, two wood working shows in between, and all the while doing some demanding work on the shop in cold weather.
Even with the brisk return of
below freezing temperatures, we cannot help but notice a growing momentum at the wood shop. We feel a renewed vigor and the work seems to progress faster and faster. In the last two weeks alone, the building was insulated and sheathed, the exterior slab poured, windows installed, siding started, piping and equipment installed, and interior walls covered. The shop itself has also progressed with the building of storage cabinets underway.
But perhaps the most exciting development has been the arrival of the red maple for the work benches. Over the last couple days we have begun milling the lumber for the bench tops and will continue milling and gluing up over the next week or so (Jacob will be posting on this).
With each passing day the sun sets a few minutes later, the lingering light reminding us of the warmer days of Spring ahead and the inaugeral workshop at New Legacy New York schedule for April. Soon Paul will be back to continue our training and attend two more woodworking shows, Somerset, NJ and Fredericksburg, VA.
