Gary and Jim did a terrific job milling and gluing up the bench tops these past couple of weeks. Friday afternoon the last top was glued and clamped, then on Saturday morning we took the fifteen tops up to the Olde Saratoga Millwork shop were we took them to their final finished dimensions.
We finished each top individually because we plan on adjusting the bearer and well boards to each top bringing all of the benches to a consistent height and width. Most of the tops finished out between 2 1/4″ and 2 3/8″ thick and the widths were between 13″ and 14″ wide, which is going to make a very solid work surface.
Having the fifteen maple workbench tops finished brings us one step closer to the opening of the New Legacy School of Woodworking in April. We are looking forward to sharing this space with all of the students who come to take workshops with Paul Sellers.
Our next big task will be the workbench legs, which we will begin this week. Paul arrives from Wales today, so look for him to post details from his trip in the coming days.
